Prep Roundup: May 14

The season came to a close for two local teams Tuesday as both found themselves eliminated from the postseason. 
The Christopher boys volleyball team accomplished its goal of reaching the Central Coast Section Division I playoffs and were awarded the No. 10 seed. The Cougars run was short-lived, however, as they fell to No. 7 Lynbrook in straight sets in San Jose. They lost 14-25, 15-25, 14-25.
Christopher ends its season with a 19-16 overall record. 
The Christopher lacrosse team’s season also came to a close, as it fell 8-0 to the Falcons in Scotts Valley Tuesday in the Mission Trail Athletic League playoffs. 
The Cougars end their season with a two-game skid, despite a stellar performance from goalie Chris Hernandez in the regular season finale against Carmel May 7. The team lost that game 13-2.
Christopher finishes with an 11-6 record, its best in program history.
BASEBALL
Cougars sweep season series with Balers
Christopher topped the first place San Benito for the third time this season, winning 7-5 Tuesday in Hollister—and Bryan Easton had a lot to do with it. 
Easton homered twice against the Balers, accounting for three RBIs and two runs scored. Josh Wheat also homered for Christopher and had three RBIs.
The Cougars scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning, which erased a 5-2 deficit to secure the victory. 
Sean Straub got the ‘W’ on the bump. He entered in the sixth and pitched two perfect innings and struck out one.
The Balers struck first, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Christopher got on the board with a run in the top of the third, but San Benito scored two in the bottom to take a 5-1 lead. 
The Cougars also added a run in the top of the sixth. 
Anthony Rodriguez was also 2 for 3 in the game for Christopher, with two runs scored. 
The Cougars (14-11 overall, 10-7 in league) beat Gilroy Friday and look to extend their three game win streak in the regular season finale. They host Monterey at 4 p.m. today.
