GILROY – The Strand Theatre, 7588 Monterey St., will host Laurence Juber as he gives “An Interactive Concert Experience” on Friday, Feb. 6, at 8 p.m.
Juber was hand-picked by Paul McCartney to become Wings’ lead guitarist. He spent three years recording and touring the world with the band, and during that time won a Best Rock Instrumental Grammy Award for the track “Rockestra” from the Wings album “Back To The Egg.” After Wings disbanded in 1981, Juber embarked on a solo career and soon developed a reputation as a world-class guitar virtuoso, recently being voted number one by “Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine.”

GILROY – The South County Division of the Mexican American Community Services Agency (MACSA) Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth program will host “Mano en Mano” on Friday, Feb. 6, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at Gilroy One Stop, 190 Leavesley Road. This is an evening of fun and food to strengthen the friendship between the developing youth workforce and the new businesses of Gilroy. Game-day for after the Super Bowl
GILROY – The Gilroy Branch of the American Association of University Women will hold “No-Ball-Game-Day” on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Historic Strand Theater, 7588 Monterey St., from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Bring your board game or deck of cards and your friends and prepare for fun. The festive event will include lunch, two gaming sessions, door prizes and snacks. All kinds of games from Bunko to Yahtzee will be played, just no ball games.

GILROY/MORGAN HILL – Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League will be holding its annual tryouts for competition teams on Saturdays and Sundays, Feb. 7, 8, 14 and 15, alternating between Rod Kelley School in Gilroy and P.A. Foreign Wars Commander comes to town
GILROY – The Veteran of Foreign Wars Commander-In-Chief Edward S. Candidates come to San Martin
SAN MARTIN – Numerous legislative candidates will be at the Gilroy and Morgan Hill chapter of the California Republican Assembly’s monthly meeting on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the rented facilities of Church of the Valley, 13380 Depot St. All of the Republican legislative candidates, including those running for the U.S. Senate, have been invited to the meeting. Most of them, except the statewide candidates for Senate, have indicated they plan to attend.

Sanchez re-appointed to Water District board
SAN JOSE – Sig Sanchez was re-appointed to a four-year term on the Santa Clara Valley Water District board of directors.
Sanchez has served on the water district board of directors since 1980. In addition to his service to the district, Sanchez served as a council member and mayor of Gilroy.
The Santa Clara Valley Water District manages wholesale drinking water resources; provides stewardship for the county’s vast watersheds, including a series of reservoirs, more than 700 miles of streams and groundwater basins and coordinates flood protection for residents.
Be an election officer
SANTA CLARA COUNTY – The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters needs poll workers for the Presidential Primary on March 2. Election officers are needed to staff polling places in San Martin, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Cupertino and the Berryessa, Evergreen and East Foothills areas of San Jose. To serve applicants must be a registered voter in Santa Clara County, have their own transportation and attend a training class. Election officers earn a stipend of between $95 and $130 for the day. An additional amount is given for bilingual skills or referring others to be an election officer. Details: 299-7655.
