Opal M. Payne died Friday, Feb. 13, at her residence at the
Sundial Retirement Lodge in Modesto, at the age of 80.
Opal M. Payne died Friday, Feb. 13, at her residence at the Sundial Retirement Lodge in Modesto, at the age of 80.

Opal was a resident of Modesto, living there for 70 years. She had been a dispatcher for the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Department, a supply clerk at Hammond Hospital, a secretary for the district manager of Mann Theaters, now known as the Strand Theater, and worked on a farm with her husband, Mervin R. Payne. She loved to garden, can foods and cook.

Payne is survived by her children Brad Payne and Steve Payne, both of Modesto, as well as six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Mervin Payne.

A graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m., at Lakewood Memorial Park with Franklin and Downs-Colonial Chapel directing.
