Tremblay nets 12 points in 42-39 win over Gladiators
GILROY – The Gavilan College women’s basketball team won its second consecutive conference game Wednesday evening by defeating the visiting Chabot College Gladiators, 42-39.

The Lady Rams overcame a 17-14 halftime deficit.

Both teams have been ranked in the top three teams in the state for team defense for much of the season.

“All of our players came up with key plays when we needed them down the stretch,” said head coach Mike Girardi. “I’m proud of them for battling to win the game.”

Freshman Jen Tremblay led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points. Sophomore Nicole Donley scored 11 points, sophomore guard Sabrina Murphy scored 10 and freshman Carolyn Beatty added one point.

Freshman forward Lacey Byers, Beatty and Murphy grabbed key offensive and defensive rebounds late in the game. Donley and freshman guard Cynthia Pinto handled the basketball well, as the Lady Rams held off the Gladiators.

Gavilan now is 11-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Chabot falls to 9-12 overall and 2-5 in conference action.

The Rams travel to Foothill College on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Foothill is 6-0 in conference play. Gavilan lost to Foothill on January 28, 71-60.

“Rebounding was the big difference in the first Foothill game,” Girardi said. “We know what we have to do well for Friday’s game.”
