GILROY – The Gilroy Assistance League is accepting requests for grants for 2004. Last year, GALS gave out more than $10,000 to various local children and youth causes. Requests should be a hand-written letter asking for a certain amount of money and telling what that money will be used for if granted. All requests must be received by Monday, Feb. 23 to be considered. Grants will be issued in May. Mail requests to GALS, 7477 Eigleberry St., Gilroy, CA 95020. Details: 842-8251.
Refresh your driving
GILROY – The AARP 55 Alive Driver Safety Program will be offered on Saturday, Feb. 28. This one-day classroom refresher for motorists 50 and older will familiarize participants with driver safety, new DMV tests and laws. Three-year DMV certificates will be awarded for discounts on auto insurance upon completion of the program. No tests will be given. Space is limited so reserve your place in advance. Dance the night away
GILROY – St. Mary’s Youth Group will hold a “Mexican Fiesta,” an adult dinner dance, on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 6 p.m. to midnight, at Cullen Hall, 11 First St. The event will feature a no-host bar, sounds to DJ spinning, an auction and a raffle. GILROY – The American Red Cross will hold a Gilroy community blood drive on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. To donate blood participants must be 17 years or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. Peter Pan
MORGAN HILL – The South Valley Civic Theatre, sponsored in part by Rotary Club of Gilroy, presents “Peter Pan,” directed by Colleen Tom-Chipman. Performances are set for Fridays and Saturdays, through Feb. 14, at 7 p.m., at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, located at the corner of Monterey and Fifth streets.
