Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero, seen training at the Gilroy Youth

Gilroy’s own Robert Guerrero can be seen on TV at 11 p.m. up
against Enrique Sanchez
GILROY – Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero will appear in the boxing ring today on Showtime at 11 p.m. as the Gilroy-native is set to bump heads with former world champion Enrique Sanchez.

The featured fight between the two southpaws – the second such encounter for Guerrero – will be held at the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, Oregon.

Guerrero comes in with a 12-0-1 record, including five wins by way of knockout, while Sanchez – the one-time WBA 122-pound champion – boasts a 30-2-4 record, including 21 knockouts.

The 21-year-old is dedicating the fight to his good friend and Hall of Fame cutman Chuk Bodak for his birthday.

Also on the Thursday night card is Juan Carlos ‘Ranchero’ Ramirez (33-5) versus Jorge Martinez (11-1-1) and Dakota Stone (5-3-3) versus Yvonne Reis.

‘The Ghost’ is determined to become the first Gilroy-born-and-raised world champion in the professional ranks. But for this fight he is up against a tough-and-experienced Mexican boxer whose only two losses come against top contenders Marco Antonio Barrera and Nestor Garza.

Guerrero fights as a junior featherweight at 122 pounds as well as a featherweight at 126 pounds. In the 122-pound division, the champions are Mahyar Monshipor (WBA), Oscar Larios (WBC) and Israel Vazquez (IBF). In the 126-pound division, Juan Manuel Marquez owns the WBA and IBF championship belts with Injin Chi holding the WBC title.

The garlic pugilist has won his last five fights by knockout before the end of the second round. Guerrero, however, is no longer under the tutelage of trainer Joe Goossen. Along with his father, Ruben Guerrero, and the rest of Team Guerrero, he is now co-trained by Joe Bray.
