Gilroy – The 11th annual High on Health 2004 wellness fair taked place from 9am to 1pm Wednesday at the Gavilan College Student Center, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

The event, presented by Gavilan College Student Health Services and the Associated Student Body, is free and open to the public. An all-day parking pass is 75 cents.

The student-driven fair features health services and health education about a wide range of health-related issues including fitness and nutrition, substance abuse and mental health. Services include free and confidential HIV testing, free blood pressure and blood glucose screenings, and counseling referrals for individuals and families.

Fair participants also can find out more about possible career fields, enter a prize drawing, enjoy massage demonstrations and learn about community health resources.

Last year’s fair drew more than 1,500 people.

Gilroy – A 12-year-old boy from Rebekah Children’s Services would like permanent placement with a local family. He is charismatic and charming. He wants to be adopted and is eager to meet the family who will develop a long-lasting bond with him.

GriefShare class meets Sunday nights

Gilroy – GriefShare recovery seminar and support group meets at First Baptist Church in Gilroy each Sunday night at 7pm. The church is located at 8455 Wren Ave.

GriefShare features nationally recognized experts on grief and recovery topics. Seminar sessions include “When Your Dreams Fall Apart,” “The Seasons of Grief,” “Emotions Of Grief,” “When Your Spouse Dies,” “Your Family and Grief” and “Growing Through Grief.”

Get hands on with prehistoric rock art

Gilroy – Rock Art Workshop at Chitactac-Adams on Saturday from 10am-2pm. Take part in a free hands-on workshop focusing on prehistoric rock art. Primarily designed for educators, the workshop will focus on integrating rock art into elementary classroom curriculum. Lesson plans and materials provided.
