GHS boys golfers still win tri-meet at Ridgemark despite poor
green play
GILROY – Putting is only one part of a golf game and, although the Mustang duffers struggled on the greens, they made up for it in other areas, winning out in Thursday’s tri-meet at Ridgemark GC.
“Gilroy played a very vulnerable golf course today. The greens were in excellent shape compared the sandy Eagle Ridge greens,” head coach Eric Kuwada said.
Gilroy finished with a 216 team tally on the Gabilan Course to edge host Hollister (217) by a stroke with Live Oak (238) taking third place.
“But we struggled today on our putting,” the coach said. “Everyone except Ryan (Dinsmore) had difficulty putting today. We made a lot of three-putts, so needless to say our scores showed it.”
Senior Ryan Dinsmore medaled with a meet-low 36 over nine holes, while senior Thomas Hoshida finished with a 43 and sophomore Stephen Freeth tallied a 44. In addition, senior Daniel Perry scored a 46, and both freshman Jordan Miller and sophomre Jami Binowski recorded 47s.
“We are better team than what we shot today, but we won,” Kuwada said. “That helps us along and we are coming to some pivotal matches for us to play catch up to second place (in league) and a CCS berth.”
Up next, Gilroy will travel to Salinas on Tuesday and then will return to Eagle Ridge to play the Cowboys again on Wednesday.
“If we can beat them on these days, we will catch up to Palma and make it interesting,” Kuwada said.
