Mrs. Neilson was born 85 years ago in Roch-ester, N.Y. She moved to California in 1946 to be an executive secretary for Clapps Baby Food in San Jose. She married her loving husband Dr. James Neilson 58 years ago and has been a Gilroy residence ever since.

She is the devoted mother of Beverly and her husband David Curry. of Santa Rosa, Doug and his wife Joanie Neilson, of Milwaukee, and Marcie Neilson, of Oakland; loving grandmother of Scott and his wife Christina, of Santa Rosa, Shelly Curry and her fiancé Jeff Randesi, of San Francisco, and Natalie Neilson and Brittany Neilson, both of Milwaukee. She is also survived by a brother, William, and his wife Roz Pfaff, of Springfield, Tenn.

Mrs. Neilson’s family and home were her greatest love. She was always active in her children’s school and sporting events, she loved her garden and was a very talented seamstress. Eleanor was also a longtime volunteer for both the Wheeler and St. Louise Hospitals, she was a charter member of the Gilroy Assistance League and was the first woman to serve on the board of the Gilroy Presbyterian Church. She was well known and loved throughout our community. Since moving here in 1949, she has always been active in various Gilroy activities. She carried herself with grace and dignity, always making time for family and friends. She will be loved and missed forever.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Gilroy Presbyterian Church, 6000 Miller Ave., Gilroy under direction of Habing Family Funeral Home. Donations to the Gilroy Assistance League or your favorite charity are preferred and appreciated.
