William “Bill” F. Rumbley died Feb. 22, 2004.
Born in Los Angeles, Bill moved to Fresno in the early ’30s. He graduated from Fresno High School in 1937. Bill earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Rose Poly College in Bloomington, Ind., in 1942 and worked for General Electric in Syracuse, N.Y. until the end of World War II.
Bill returned to Fresno after the war to work with his father in the family business, Rumbley Trucking. In the early ’60s, Rumbley Trucking was sold and Rumbley Properties, Inc. was founded. Annual Rumbley Trucking Company reunions continued for more than 30 years.
Throughout this period, Bill followed his interest in raising cattle on his ranch in Springdale. There he worked to develop a superior breed of Limousine Cattle imported from France.
He is survived by his daughters Mary Jane Rumbley and Joanne Diefenbach of Newport Beach, and Shelley Kovacs, of Gilroy; his two sons-in-law, Arthur G. Diefenbach and Dr. Robert Kovacs; and four grandchildren, Jennifer and Bobby Kovacs and Jamie and Shelley Diefenbach.
A memorial service will be held at Sunnyside Country Club Saturday at 1 p.m. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Rotary International Scholarship Fund, Rotary Club of Fresno, 2135 Fresno, #203, Fresno, CA, 93721.
