Clyde Davis, a Gilroy resident, has been named Employee of the Year for the Valley Transportation Authority. Davis started at the VTA 27 years ago as a parts clerk and is now Vehicle Parts Supervisor.
”I have seen VTA grow after acquiring new technology and modern equipment and I am glad to have had the opportunity to grow with VTA,” he said.
Nominated employees must exhibit excellence in customer service, provide leadership and support at work, contribute positively to the work environment, be an excellent performer and an outstanding achiever. The award is based on all these factors.
Clyde said his motto is simple: More efficient, more interesting and more productive.
Let Easter bloom
GILROY – Chapter 270 of the California School Employees Association (CSEA), representing the Professional Support Services employees of Gavilan College is now taking orders for Potted Easter Lillies, to be delivered the week of April 5. Payment of $8 per potted lily is due at the time of order. All funds will be donated to provide scholarships for Gavilan College students. Feed others and dance
GILROY – St. Joseph’s Family Center and the Strand Theater will hold a food drive on Sunday, March 28. Bring any canned or nonperishable food item and get in free to dance at the Strand, 7588 Monterey St. A live band will play Dixieland music from 1 to 3 p.m. and Swing music from 3 to 5 p.m. Additional food pantry drives have been scheduled for May 23, Sept. 26, Oct. 17 and Nov. 21. Breakfast benefits ICF
GILROY – The semi-annual Scholarship Breakfast, hosted by the Italian Catholic Federation will be held from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 28, at Cullen Hall, St. Mary Church, 11 First St. Proceeds from the breakfast of scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee will benefit Branch 28 scholarship programs and other ICF charities. Tamale time
GILROY – Are you a little hungry?Do you want to have homemade Mexican food and support a good cause?
The Gilroy Eigleberry Neighborhood Association (GENA) is having a “Tamale Dinner Fundraiser” on Monday, March 29 at the Veterans Hall, 74 W. Sixth and Eigleberry streets.
Takeout is available starting at 6 p.m. Dinner will be from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
A $5 donation, or $4 for seniors 55 and over, includes tamale, Mexican rice and beans. A $3 kids plate includes hot dog and beans and hot links are $3.GENA is raising money to do neighborhood activities, such as clean ups, socials, etc. Tamale Dinner for first 50 people.They also need donations of money or raffle prizes. Pancake Breakfast
SAN MARTIN – The Presbyterian Church, 6000 Miller Ave., will host “Pancake Breakfast” on Saturday, March 27, from 7 to 11 a.m. The menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee and juice or milk. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children. Proceeds will be used to fund the week-long Vacation Bible School event for the children of the community this summer.
