Morgan Hill – Voters on Tuesday in the San Jose portion of the Morgan Hill School District chose Kathleen Sullivan, Peter Mandel and Julia Hover-Smoot to fill the three soon-to-be vacant seats on the Board of Education.

However, the results from the majority of Morgan Hill area precincts were not among the early count, nor were a number of absentee ballots.

At press time, the results are from 20 of 45 precincts, with some absentees.

“Things changed a lot in the last election when the Morgan Hill results came in,” Mandel said Tuesday night. “But I’m feeling confident, I’m feeling optimistic that the election will turn out the way I’m hoping, and we’ll have an opportunity to do great things for Morgan Hill.”

Sullivan said she was surprised and gratified she was in the lead, with 2,506 or 26 percent, of the votes. Mandel had 1,939, or 20 percent, and Hover-Smoot had 1,704 or 18 percent.

“This is such a unique experience in my life,” Sullivan said. “It’s been a great day. People have come up to me and said, ‘I voted for you.’ It’s very exciting. If nothing else, I will have had this great experience.”

In the early results, Harlan Warthen, in fourth place, garnered 1,381 votes. In fifth was Bob Griesinger with 922 votes followed by Mike Davenport with 906.
