grafitti issues:

“Hello Red Phone. I had the chance to take a walk on the Uvas levee trail extension this weekend. It’s very nice, but I have to say that under the bridge at Santa Teresa is the worst graffiti I’ve ever seen in Gilroy. I wonder if you could publish the graffiti hotline and see if you can get someone to paint out the graffiti under the bridge of the new trail extension. Thanks.”

You got it. The city’s Graffiti Report Line is 846-0395. This line is used for people to report graffiti on public or private property. To report graffiti in progress, call 9-1-1.

The Red Phone put a call in and left a message about the graffiti under the Santa Teresa bridge.

And, in case you missed it, on the front page today you can read about what St. Mary students are doing about grafitti on a fence across from their school.

what a story!:

“Wanted to compliment the Dispatch on that great story of Robert Mendez. It was a great story and inspirational. The photos you had were really good too. Thanks for bringing to light a very inspirational young man who has a great outlook on life. I know a lot of people who should stop, take a look and take some lessons on living and living well from him. Thank you.”

• “Hi. I think the story on the high school kid, Robert, is really good. I’ve seen him around and always had a little curiosity about who he was and I got a real insight into who he is and his personality really shined through in that article. I liked that the writer didn’t take the article really seriously. It was sort of a more casual approach. Robert sounds like a good guy and it was time for some good news. Thank you and bye.”

The Red Phone agrees. Mendez is not only just one of the guys, but he’s got a great attitude to boot. The Red Phone and the above callers thank him for sharing his story with the community.

Note:

To the person who called in regarding the turn lane signal at Santa Teresa and First Street.

The Red Phone received an update call from Charlie Krueger with the City of Gilroy.

“We had CalTrans come out and look at the signal controller and everything seems to be functioning correctly. I’m not sure … what time of day they went through the intersection. But the detection system out there seems to be working properly and the signal timing is working properly.”

He added that if troubles continue with the intersection and the tripping of the light, he would continue to look into it. So, readers, call the Red Phone with any further troubles.
