Gilroy – The Gavilan College Educational Foundation invites everyone to support the Rams at Casino Night from 6 to 11pm, Friday, Nov. 12 at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club.
The $50 ticket price includes a buffet dinner, $50 in gaming chips, and prizes. Everyone who purchases a ticket will have the chance to win a $1,000 American Airlines Giveaway. As Gavilan College works to build and strengthen the Athletics Program, community support is essential. Community donations help to equip the teams, without taking money from the college general fund.

St. Mary School
Gilroy – The St. Mary School Scholastic Book Fair is coming Nov. 7 to 11, 2004, after all Masses. Get a jump start on your Christmas shopping by purchasing some great books for the children and adults as well.
The Book Fair is the major fundraising event for the St. Mary School library.
Cowboy Poetry at the Gilroy Library today
Gilroy – Bob Pearl, the Appalachian Cowboy, will bring his program of classic Cowboy Poetry to the Gilroy Library, 7387 Rosanna Street, today at 3 p.m.
Several years ago, Pearl became hooked on Cowboy Poetry at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee. Since then, he’s developed a program on classic Cowboy Poetry which he’s performed for many Bay Area groups. He’s also on the board for the Monterey Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival. He’ll bring to life the poetry of Bruce Kiskaddon, Henry Herbert Knibbs, Charles Badger Clark, S. Omar Barker, and others.

Retired teachers annual spring luncheon
Morgan Hill – The Uvas Valley Chapter of the California Retired Teachers Association will meet for their annual Spring Luncheon Thursday at noon, at Marie Callender’s Restaurant, 18599 Sutter Blvd. Member Hermann Schuralzvie will entertain with his special music and Jim Simoni will give a presentation on creating a living trust.

Salvation Army needs holiday volunteers
Gilroy – The Salvation Army needs volunteers to help during the holiday season. Volunteers are need to help:

Boy Scouts embark on food drive
November is Scouting For Food Month all across America. This is the largest single food drive in the U.S. Please join Boy Scout Troop 708 (the same boy scouts who put up the 100 American Flags up and down Monterey Road each holiday) as they gather food for the friends and neighbors in the community who are having difficult times. Any non-perishable food can be brought to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7999 Miller Ave., on Tuesdays, Nov. 9, 16 or 23. The scouts hold meetings between 7 and 8:30pm and can assist in unloading your donations to be delivered to their drop-off sites.

Gilroy – The Garlicky Group of Poets will hold its monthly poetry reading Saturday, Nov. 13 at 3:30pm in the meeting room of the Gilroy Library, located at Rosanna and Sixth Streets. Public participation is free and encouraged.

Gilroy – The Gilroy Historical Society will lead their last walking tour for 2004 Saturday, Nov. 6 at 10am, starting in front of St. Joseph’s Family Center.

YMCA Youth Basketball registration underway
Morgan Hill – Youth basketball league registration for boys and girls ages two through 16 is now underway at Mt. Madonna YMCA, 17666 Crest Ave., Morgan Hill.
The registration deadline is Dec. 19, 2004. Youth basketball league games are played every Saturday from Jan. 8 through March 12 at YMCA and local facilities. Practice sessions once a week are scheduled by coaches for ages 7 and older. Saturday game times will be announced by YMCA volunteer-coaches.
The registration fees for youth basketball are $45 for facility members and $65 for program members. A free youth basketball T-shirt is included in the registration fee.

ICF Scholarship breakfast Sunday
Gilroy – The Italian Catholic Federation is sponsoring their semi-annual scholarship breakfast Sunday at St. Mary Hall, 11 First St.
Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 11:30am, and includes pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice, milk and coffee will be served. Donations are $5 adults and $3 children 12 and younger.
All proceeds go to local scholarships.

Learn the ABC’s of composting
Morgan Hill – The cities of Morgan Hill and Gilroy, in coordination with the Santa Clara County Home Composting Education Program, are sponsoring a free “Compost Basics” workshop in from 7 to 9pm, Wednesday.
The class will be held in Morgan Hill, admission is free, and all interested adults are invited to attend and learn the A-B-C’s of backyard and worm composting in a fun and informative classroom experience. Discover ways to recycle “Garbage” – yard trimmings and food scraps – into the valuable soil amendment known as compost. Local Master Composters conduct the class, and attendees will obtain information on how to purchase low cost composting bins and equipment at the conclusion of the event.

Gavilan presents ‘A Christmas Carol’

Entertainers needed for adult day care
