Dear Editor,

When I read The Dispatch’s endorsement of John Kerry, I thought it had to be a page out of John Kerry’s hometown newspaper, The Lowell Sun. The Dispatch cites all of the Democratic talking points one might expect from an editorial board that is, in large part, extreme left.

Interestingly, The Lowell Sun gives a resounding endorsement to George W. Bush. This is based on a very intimate and honest knowledge of Kerry’s character, or lack thereof.

Eight months into G.W. Bush’s presidency, we were attacked without provocation by an enemy that didn’t hate Bush, but instead, hated our way of life and our freedom of and or from religion. Now ABC News is in possession of a videotape purportedly from Al-Qaeda, containing a threat of a massive attack on America if Bush is re-elected. This de facto endorsement of Kerry by Al-Qaeda should be a clue to the liberals that they’re on the wrong side of the war on terror.

On the economy, The Dispatch uses the term “ill advised” when referring to the Bush tax cuts. According to economist Edward Prescott, co-winner of the 2004 Nobel Prize for Economics, “President George Bush’s tax cuts should have been bigger.”

The simple truth, understood by John F. Kennedy, Ronald W. Reagan and Bush is: if you reduce taxes across the board, you would increase revenues by encouraging increased spending and increased investment by those who provide the jobs. As a small business owner, Kerry’s promise to raise my taxes may affect my ability to employ and my employee’s ability to spend.

On the home front, The Dispatch had a front-row seat during the tumultuous tenure of School Board President Jaime Rosso and Board member Bob Kraemer. The editorial board wisely chose not to endorse the latter. How then, is endorsing Rosso justifiable? It couldn’t have been his performance in that body, nor would I suggest it was because Rosso is a major advertiser in the paper.

Rosso rarely exhibited anything other than contempt for the electorate when they asked the board for action on honors classes, AP classes, improving the reading list and adopting a textbook curriculum. These issues were not brought up by anyone other than Tom Bundros, the lone advocate for change and improvement.

The Alliance for Academic Excellence led by Rhoda Bress, Bob Heisey and others were the ones that should be given credit for the major changes in GUSD.

Rosso and Kraemer never went against the wishes of Superintendent Edwin Diaz. Their management philosophy is one of rubber-stamping whatever the superintendent or staff suggests. That is not the way the system is supposed to work.

As far being a successful businessman translating into being a competent school board member, there is little correlation given the evidence. With test scores falling or flat, my grade to the GUSD Board as a whole is an “F.” Kramer, Rosso and Gurich are the only three incumbents who we can send a message to. That message? You’re fired!

I am endorsing Robert Heisey and

Rhoda Bress.
