GILROY – The Gavilan College Small Business Development Center, located at Dry Creek Village Center, 8351 Church St., building E, will hold “Workplace Skills in a Retail Environment” on Friday, Jan. 23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This free workshop will provide an overview of working in a retail environment, principles of customer service, work ethics, dealing with difficult customers and cashiering and scanning practices. If you are unable to attend on Friday, Jan. 23, that’s all right, because the workshop will be repeated every Friday through June. Details: Debi at 847-0373.
Bowl for cheerleading
GILROY – The Gilroy High School Competition Cheerleading Team will host a “Bowl-A-Thon,” a fund raiser, on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Gilroy Bowl, 7554 Monterey St., from 7 to 10 p.m. A raffle will be held every hour. The team recently qualified for the Nationals in Orlando, Fla. Any donations would be greatly appreciated and may be sent to Heritage Bank, 737 First St. Details: Jan at 848-3630.
Lunch and movies
GILROY – The Gilroy Historical Society will hold “A Day at the Movies” on Saturday, Jan. 24, from noon to 3 p.m., at the Methodist Church Social Hall, 7600 Church St. A potluck lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m., after which a showing of “Know Your City,” a 1931 film of the Gymkhana (rodeo) and segments of films by Justin Byers will be featured.
