New traffic signal at Santa Teresa and Sunrise
Gilroy – The city will activate a new traffic signal Nov. 1 at the intersection of Sunrise Drive and Santa Teresa Boulevard, the city’s western traffic artery, as part of the streets upgrade project.
Catholic Ladies Aid Society officers installed
Gilroy – The Catholic Ladies Aid Society, Branch No. 6, held its luncheon and installation of officers in October at Serra Cottage in Gilroy. Grand President Joyce Grezzel and other grand officers from the Bay Area did the honors.
The new officers are: President – Bruna Goold, Past President, Felicia Rosas; Senior Vice President, Lorraine Martin; Junior Vice President, Lupe Sanchez; Recording Secretary, Aurora Erojo; Corresponding Secretary, Bette Scarper; Financial Secretary, Dolores Corrales; Treasurer, Evelyn Godiga; Marshal, Deloris Blake; Guard, Elisa Ruiz; Executive Board, Natalie Ayala, Marie Dirozzoli and Irma Batrez.
The CLS operates a religious store at St. Mary Church that subsidizes St. Joseph Family Center, and donates scholarships to St. Mary School and contributes to other parish and community events.

Haunted house at St. Mary
Gilroy – The St. Mary school gym will be transformed into a haunted house from 6 to 9pm Saturday. Food and beverages will be available. A $3 donation is requested.

Dinner benefits veterans
Morgan Hill – A dinner to benefit disabled military veterans will be held in Morgan Hill, Nov. 8. Tickets are $40, with proceeds going to Disabled American Veterans and the Freedom Alliance scholarship fund. The dinner is at Mama Mia’s restaurant, 275 E. Dunne Ave., at 6pm.

Eminent domain hearing
Salinas – Farmers are encouraged to attend a hearing next week to discuss the use of eminent domain to purchase agricultural land. The topic of the hearing is support for a California Senate bill that would restrict the use of eminent domain in the acquisition of agricultural land for public use. SB 1099 was introduced in response to a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that said the government can use eminent domain to acquire property.
The hearing is Tuesday, from 2 to 5pm, at the Monterey County Water Resources Agency, 893 Blanco Circle, Salinas.
