19th annual softball competition attracts record number of
participants
GILROY – A record 38 teams will compete this weekend in the 19th annual Garlic Festival Men’s Softball Tournament at five fields.

The Gilroy Community Services Department will open the 19th D Division event Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Christmas Hill Park, site of the 26th annual festival. Century 21 Su Casa will face the Mechanics-South County Chrysler Dodge in the lidlifter.

A field of 10 teams will compete for the D title, earned last year by Talamo Foods. A field of 28 teams will play in the fifth annual E tournament. The double-elimination tournament concludes Sunday at Christmas Hill.

Gilroy has 26 representatives, including 21 in the E event. Games will be played at two fields at both Christmas Hill and Gavilan, as well as the major diamond at Las Animas Park.
