Squadron.
Mary Elizabeth Gomes, daughter of Linda Gomes of Gilroy, graduated from training at Lachland Airforce Base with the 324th Squadron. She is now in Wichita Falls, studying to be a surgical technician. Gomes is 19 years old.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Benjamin R. Miner, a 1998 graduate of Live Oak High School, is participating in Summer Pulse 04, the Navy’s first exercise of its new operational construct, the Fleet Response Plan.

Miner is one of more than 400 crew members assigned to the dock landing ship USS Comstock, homeported in San Diego. USS Comstock supports amphibious operations including landings via landing craft air cushion, conventional landing craft and helicopters onto hostile shores.

Marine Corps Sgt. Joel E. Diehl, son of Debbie A. Diehl of Morgan Hill and Robert E. Diehl of Lower Lake, and Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Camilo J. De La Cueva, son of Jenny P. and Camilo De La Cueva of Gilroy, and more than 2, 100 Marines and Sailors assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit recently deployed with the Belleau Wood Expeditionary Strike Group to the Western Pacific and Central Command area of responsibility in support of the global war on terrorism.
