DEAR EDITOR:
Regarding the subcommittee report by Morgan Hill Council Members Larry Carr and Gregg Sellers on the results of the investigation into the surveillance of the city manager and acceptance by the City Council:
What business is it of the city to hire an investigator or to look into an action by whomever that was not illegal?
Councilmembers Carr and Sellers claim in their report that City Manager Ed Tewes was fearful for himself and family and they felt it was a city connection. I say he should have called the police for protection.
Carr’s and Sellers’ report is little more than an unjustified expenditure of taxpayers’ money, stitched together with hearsay, innuendo, unfounded accusations and wild leaps to insupportable conclusions. This is nothing more than political gamesmanship, and it is nothing less than politics at its dirtiest. Councilwoman Hedy Chang, who has served Morgan Hill faithfully and honorably for more than 12 years, is being hung out to dry and at a time when she may or may not consider continuing to serve the citizens of Morgan Hill. Of course, the damage inflicted by Carr’s and Sellers’ report surely puts a stop to that possibility.
Also, why was this issue of an alleged relationship not handled exclusively in personnel? Carr and Sellers have damaged the reputations of all concerned: city manager, city attorney, Hedy Chang and Bruce Tichinin, and in the process, they have scarred all of the citizens of Morgan Hill.
How could two supposedly decent men be so evil-minded, so mean-tempered, so driven by the politics of personal destruction? Shame on them. And shame on all of us for tolerating such despicable actions.
Lorraine F. Barke, former mayor and council member of Morgan Hill
