DEAR EDITOR:

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! To Our Voice for getting the word out there about buying pet store puppies. This has been my crusade for over a year now and you said it all very eloquently.

To Dr. Greg Martinez: Thank you for clarifying your comments that were quoted in the article “Run of the Mill” in the April 16th Dispatch. I still believe that whether the puppies are from “high volume breeders” or “low volume breeders”, there is never a guarantee that those breeders are not puppy mills. No reputable breeder ships puppies across the country to pet stores.

To Mark Vega: Mr. Vega, you should know that all this “hoopla”, as you call it, was not stirred up by the Gavilan Kennel Club. I stirred it up over a year ago. I was given information about a pet store in Gilroy selling very sick puppies. The veterinarians in town were distressed over the numbers they were seeing. I was involved and started writing my letters – two of which so far were printed in The Dispatch. Your remarks about the Gavilan Kennel Club are not true and I doubt seriously that you have discussed this with any of their representatives. As for the dogs in “fish tanks”, what I saw the day I went in to Our Pet Shop was disgusting. Two large puppies were in enclosures in the back of the store – in urine and feces. That place was dark and dirty. I worry what happens when the lights really go off. What sort of life is that for a new puppy?

Again, I thank The Dispatch for their support and reiterate the last comment made in Our Voice – PET STORE PUPPIES SHOULD BECOME EXTINCT IN SOUTH VALLEY.
