George Cavinta Sr. died peacefully on April 26, 2004, at his San Martin home.
He was 94.
Born on April 10, 1910 in Aringay, La Union, Philippines, Mr. Cavinta immigrated to the United States when he was 19.
He was a long-time chef before he retired in 1972. He enjoyed gardening, raising pigs, fishing, going to horse races, watching wrestling and boxing, and going to Reno. He was kind and generous to everyone he knew and brought smiles and laughter to all those around him.
Mr. Cavinta is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lucena Cavinta of San Martin; sons, George (Diana) Cavinta Jr. of Arcata, Joel Cavinta of Morgan Hill, and Gene Cavinta of Morgan Hill; daughters, Donadina (Ernie) Domingo of Eureka, Frances Rooney of Fremont, and Lolita Cavinta of Sacramento; stepsons, Arnold Alegre of San Martin and Rolando Cuaresma of Stafford, Virginia; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A vigil service and visitation will be held Sunday, May 2, at Johnson Funeral Home, 17720 Monterey St., Morgan Hill, with the vigil starting at 5 p.m.
Visitation to follow until 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m., Monday, May 3, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.
