Morgan Hill – Two young men made off with $6,000 in cash and an unknown amount of jewelry in an armed robbery Friday afternoon. They were last walking south toward West Main Avenue from the Morgan Hill Shopping Center at Main and Hale avenues.
At 2:25pm, the suspects walked into the La Estrellita store, 237-B W. Main Ave.
One of the men ordered the female clerk to sit behind the counter, put the black handgun to her head and demanded money from the safe.
Afterward, her hands were bound with red painters’ tape.
Police Lt. Terrie Booten said the clerk was shaken but not harmed.
Meanwhile, the second man removed jewelry from display cases and placed it in his backpack.
The suspects also removed a security video tape before fleeing the store.
Both men were carrying black backpacks, wearing dark sunglasses and gloves.
One man was described as white, 5-feet, 9-inches tall, wearing a black T-shirt and black pants.
The second was described as Hispanic, 5-feet, 9-inches tall, wearing tan-colored pants and a beanie. Both were described as between 16 and 21.
Two men matching the description were stopped in nearby Galvan Park a short time after the holdup. They were released after the clerk and a construction worker said they were not involved.
