I go to major gambling destinations throughout the year and, yes, there’s all the glitz and lights but I would rather spend the traveling time gambling – especially if it where to somewhere local.
No, I’m not a senior living for slot tournaments or a high roller. I’m just like anybody else who wants to gamble a bit and have some fun. I go to Las Vegas three to four times a year and Tahoe/Reno about the same. Why? Because that’s where you get to see some great shows, enjoy good food, and get to relax and bet in the games of life – not to mention that they give me free rooms and other goodies. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve gone to Chuckchansi, Chumash and about eight more Indian casinos in the state and they are great but they are still far away.
Having a local casino would be great for the area as far as employment opportunities, tourism and entertainment from dinning to a much-needed nightlife. Have you ever asked a Vegas local if they gamble? Most of them just live normal lives and don’t go to the strip. Believing a casino will bring crime and other mishaps like pollution (Question: What’s more polluted the city of Hollister with not enough sewer ponds or a casino that will treat its own sewage?) is not factually based but based on not in my backyard-ism.
If a casino will bring more things to do and more money to the local economy … I say let’s double down and play in my backyard!
