Salinas police continue to search for at least two suspected gang members who shot and killed two teenagers Aug. 17 – former Morgan Hill resident Lorenzo Tarin Jr. and his cousin Juan Carlos Barrios of Salinas.

Tarin, a 19-year-old Central High School graduate, and Barrios, 17, were gunned down near North Salinas High School during a fistfight that escalated to murder, police said.

The circumstances surrounding the case are under investigation, said Salinas police Sgt. Michael Groves.

“We know people were there, but we’re still putting it all together,” Groves said.

During the fight, one of the men pulled a handgun and shot both men. Groves declined to identify the caliber.

Lorenzo Tarin died at the scene, Barrios died later.

The suspects are believed to be gang members, but police are still investigating.

Tarin was buried Aug. 20 in Hollister; Barrios at St. Mary Cemetery in Gilroy on Aug. 26.

After graduating from Central, Tarin had moved to Los Banos with his grandmother.

Anyone with information may call Salinas police at (831) 758-7496.
