Despite taking an early lead, Gavilan didn’t have an answer for Hartnell’s four-run second inning — or it’s six-run fifth.
The Rams skid continued with a 13-6 loss to Hartnell in Salinas Thursday.
Matt Oxner was the losing pitcher, giving up 10 runs on nine hits and two walks in four and two-thirds innings of work. He also struck out five.
Gavilan jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, but it was quickly erased by the hosts. The Rams were able to score two more runs in both the eighth and ninth innings, but it wasn’t enough.
Adam Kocina was perfect at the plate for Gavilan, going 3 for 3 with two runs, two RBIs and two walks.
The Rams (7-11, 1-5) will return home to play Cabrillo at noon Saturday.
