Buffalo, N.Y. – Gilroy native and Canisius College senior Andrea Bunten has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced today. Bunten was honored after tossing her third career no-hitter March 25, in a 6-0 win over Binghamton in the UMBC “Dawg Pound” Classic in Baltimore.

Bunten faced just 25 batters and fanned 12 for her second win of the season in the circle for the Golden Griffins. Bunten struck out five of the first 10 batters she faced and passed former Griffs’ pitcher Genevieve Garcia for second place all-time in career strikeouts at Canisius. The 5-foot-5 senior became just the third player in the 26-year history of the program to record three or more individual no-hitters, joining Canisius Hall of Famer Michelle Corrigan (1991-94) and Natalie Kelterborn (1993-94). Bunten was named to the UMBC “Dawg Pound” Classic All-Tournament Team.

Meanwhile, former Hollister softball player Jenny Maheu, now a freshman on the Canisius team, hit a home run in her first collegiate at-bat March 18.
