The Gilroy Police Department responded to a bank robbery at approximately 3:49 p.m. Tuesday at the Union Bank located at 8000 Santa Teresa Blvd., according to a press release from the department. No injuries were reported during the robbery.
A white male in his mid-20s, donning a black hooded sweatshirt and a black hat, entered the bank and handed a note to a teller demanding money, authorities say.
The teller then handed an undisclosed amount of cash over to the suspect, according to the release. The suspect did not display a weapon during the robbery and he fled on foot prior to the arrival of police.
“Multiple officers arrived to the vicinity of the reported crime scene within minutes and conducted a search for the suspect,” said GPD Sgt. Geoff Guerin. “Despite their efforts and other investigative techniques, the suspect was not located.”
The last bank robbery in the Garlic Capital took place Nov. 5, when two armed masked men ordered everyone inside the Chase Bank at 1177 First St. to get on the ground, then escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. The two suspects fled in a white unmarked van.
