Ronny Lee Humphrey

A Los Banos man and suspect in a pending stalking case led police officers in a cross-town pursuit Aug. 27 that ultimately ended in his arrest, according to Gilroy Police Department Sgt. Pedro Espinoza.
Police responded to a residence on the 7800 block of Princevalle Street at approximately 12:26 p.m. after receiving a call that Ronny Lee Humphrey, 58 of Los Banos, was allegedly violating a temporary restraining order. Over the past 30 days, officers investigated six alleged restraining order violations by Humphrey and he was listed as the suspect in a pending stalking case, police said.
When officers arrived, Humphrey escaped in a vehicle and police immediately pursued him. The man refused to stop and led officers in a multijurisdictional pursuit through unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County and Morgan Hill, Espinoza said. The California Highway Patrol aided the GPD in the chase, and at one point, police called the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and said Humphrey might be armed.
When the Los Banos man led authorities back to Gilroy city limits, officers were concerned he was going to harm the parties protected by the restraining order—and they had to intervene, police said.
“As officers attempted to approach Humphrey’s vehicle, he purposely accelerated his vehicle in the direction of two officers in an attempt to continue to evade arrest,” Espinoza said. “Ultimately, officers were able to block all escape routes and took him into custody without further incident.”
Humphrey was charged with stalking, assault with a deadly weapon, felony evasion and multiple violations of a temporary restraining order, according to police. He was transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.
No injuries were reported during the arrest and police did not find any weapons in Humphrey’s vehicle.
Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call GPD Detective Cpl. Matsuhara at (408) 846-0350. Parties wishing to remain anonymous may call We-Tip at 1-800-782-7463 (1-800-78-CRIME).
