Red Phone

Dear Red Phone,
“I was wondering if the Dispatch could find out why Christopher Ranch didn’t have the crab feed that they’ve had for years. There was no explanation, and it’s one of those things that people look forward to and come from out of town to attend.”

Dear Lois,
We fielded the question to Julie Berggren with the Gilroy Athletic Association.
Berggren: “The Gilroy High School Athletic Association in conjunction with the Gilroy High School Athletic Department has hosted the crab cioppino feed for many years, 33 to be exact. Originally the feed was started as a fundraiser to help with the cost of transportation and other athletic related fees. As the cost of everything has risen over the years the profit margin has steadily decreased. To increase the ticket price to make a reasonable profit would limit many of our repeat attendees as many that felt the price was already too high.
GHS and the GHSAA are very grateful for the years of support from Don and Bill Christopher and Christopher Ranch staff, all of the volunteer cooks and the Gilroy community. Without everyone’s support the years of successful feeds would not have been possible. We are looking at other options to bring back the feed in the future so that the community can once again enjoy this fun event.”
