The Wings of History Air Museum will hold its annual Fly-In and Open House from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 17 at 12777 Murphy Ave., San Martin, across from the San Martin Airport. This free, event is an opportunity for everyone to explore and experience the magic of flight.
ACTIVITIES
• Free airplane rides will be available to kids ages 8 to 17, hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles Program.Sign-up ahead of the event at eaa62.org/ye-signup.php. • Hot air balloon demonstrations will begin the day at 7 a.m. A tethered balloon will offer rides onsite—weather permitting—so check the skies overhead. For information, visit lta2sum.com.
• Join in a docent-led tour through the Wings of History Air Museum, which features unique aircraft displays.
DISPLAYS
• Historic, aerobatic, homebuilt and experimental aircraft will be on display, and you will be able to speak with local pilots. There are about 30 airplanes, sailplanes and helicopters including a full-size replica of the Wright Flyer and a Rutan “Quickie” homebuilt composite airplane. Also included on display will be many historical engines, from small drone engines with a few horsepower to large multi-cylinder engines used for World War II fighters and airships.
• Antique farm equipment and vintage cars will be on display.
ABOUT THE AIR MUSEUM
The Wings of History Air Museum is a nonprofit, volunteer organization dedicated to aviation history through education, preservation, restoration and flight. It has been in existence for more than 40 years and includes a restoration shop where antique airplanes are restored to flying condition. In addition, there are two display hangars and the Ole Fahlin Memorial Propeller Shop onsite. The propeller shop specializes in building custom wooden propellers by hand for experimental and antique airplanes and is unique in the United States.
