GILROY—The South County will be well represented at this year’s All Star game.
South coach Tim Pierleoni—the Christopher head coach—will be joined by nine South County athletes at 40th Annual Charlie Wedemeyer High School All-Star Football Game July 23rd at San Jose City College.
The South squad will pack a one-two punch as two of the areas dynamic running backs will unite on the same team. Live Oak’s All-Time rushing record holder Trevor Bearden and Gilroy’s Brandon Boyd — who amassed 2,551 yards last season and holds the school’s single season touchdown record with 33 TDs—were both named to the All Star team.Â
Bearden will be joined by teammate Kyle Quadros at linebacker and Sobrato’s Andrew Mesa at strong safety to round out the Morgan Hill selections.
Joining Boyd from Gilroy is linebacker Julian Carabajal, who was second in the Monterey Bay League with 137 tackles as well as coaches Brian Boyd, who will serve as the running back coach and Darius Alexander-Jones who will direct the offensive line.
Christopher’s Rayshon Mills and Andre Arroyo both earned a spot on defense as a DB and linebacker, respectively. Arroyo racked up 59 tackles and nine sacks in his senior campaign. Mills had 48 total tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and fumble recoverey while playing on that side of the ball for the Cougars this season. They will be joined by teammates Nate Silva and Mark Riffle on the O-line. Riffle had 42 tackles this season for the Cougars, while Silva had 37 in addition to six sacks.Â
Christopher coaches Craig Martin, Aaron Bembry and Larry Murphy were also named to Pierleoni’s staff in March.Â
Kickoff for the game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
The Dispatch has learned that the three Morgan Hill-area players chosen have elected not to participate in the game.Â
