Big innings lift Saints past Rams
Mission College’s back-to-back-to-back multi-run innings combined with 16 hits proved a lethal combination for Gavilan Thursday.
The Rams lost their fourth straight, a 13-2 final at home.
Gavilan trailed by only one run before the Saints scored three runs in both the six and seventh innings and four more in the eighth.
Danny Guiterrez hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the second to cut Mission’s lead to 3-1. Gavilan notched another run in the bottom of the fourth when Gutierrez scored on an error. But despite eight hits in the game, that’s all the Rams could muster up.
Matt Oxner was the losing pitcher, allowing six runs—five earned— on eight hits and five walks while striking out four through five and two-thirds innings.
Gavilan (11-22 overall, 5-16 in conference) will play it’s third to last game of the regular season against Skyline College at noon Saturday at home.
