the Gavilan College Concert Choir will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday in
the Gavilan College Theater.
GILROY – The South Valley Symphony’s Holiday Music Program featuring the Gavilan College Concert Choir will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Gavilan College Theater.
The performance is free, but voluntary contributions are requested.
Selections for the performance include “The Many Moods of Christmas” by Shaw and “Vivaldi’s Concerto in A Minor for Two Violins and Orchestra.”
The symphony, in its 29th year, consists of 45 performers, two or three of these being Gavilan College students through the symphony’s alliance with the community college. The Gavilan students receive class credit for performing with the group. However, most of the symphony’s performers are local people with full-time jobs.
The South Valley Symphony is under the direction of Conductor and Music Director Henry Mollicone, who has been here for three years.
He has written several successful operas and has conducted various American orchestras and opera companies, including the San Jose Symphony, Opera San Jose, West Bay Opera and the opera companies of Baltimore, Portland and Central City, Colo.
He is working on finishing a two-act opera, “Gabriel’s Daughter,” for the Central City Opera.
The symphony will perform four more times this season, including a youth concert Feb. 8, a performance with the Pacific Brass Band March 15, and Opera and Cinema favorites later in the spring.
