– Due to a fire at the printers, the city recreation guide has
been slightly delayed. But residents should expect them in the mail
Saturday. There will be copies available at the Senior Center and
the Community Center, Sixth And Rosanna streets, Saturday.
Registration for activities begins Monday

Community blood drive

GHS Choir Concert

GILROY – The holiday season and music go hand in hand. The Gilroy High School Choirs will be pre-senting their annual Winter Concert Dec. 17 and 18 in the Gilroy High School Theater under the direction of Phil Robb. Both nights will begin at 7:30 p.m. The doors will open for seating at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by calling 847-2424 ext. 2288 for will call. They may also be purchased downtown at Porcella’s Music at 7357 Monterey St. All seats are $5. The cost will help defray the costs of the Winter Concerts.

Santa to visit San Ysidro

GILROY – Santa will come to the San Ysidro Park rec-reation room on Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 2 to 5 p.m. Pictures with Santa will be $1 each. Free goodies will be served. Details: 846-6372.

Donate at Garlic City Coffee

Anti-Smoking Festival

GILROY – MACSA, a Gilroy youth service organization and Victory Outreach, a Gilroy youth faith-based organization, have joined forces to plan a youth anti-smoking festival on Thursday, Dec. 19 at San Ysidro Park in Gilroy from 3 to 7 p.m. The afternoon events will include music, refreshments, games and prizes. GILROY – New Hope Community Church Fine Arts Department presents “Come In From the Cold”, a Christmas season musical/drama. GILROY – Dine at Chevys Fresh Mex Restaurant, 8440 Murray Ave., on Thursday. Dec. 19 and 20 percent of the price of your meal will be donated to South Valley Middle School’s Seventh Grade trip to Yosemite. Committee Applications

GILROY – Gilroy Unified School District has made applications for its Measure I citizens’ oversight committee available online. Through Friday, Dec. 20, the district will be taking completed applications from interested parties representing several different community stakeholder groups, such as senior citizens, tax payer groups and district parents. Formation of the committee is mandated by Measure I, the district’s $69 million school facilities bond that was passed by voters Nov. 5. The committee’s task is to be a watchdog of district spending and ensure that money form the bond goes to school construction and improvement projects only. Garlic Festival Art Contest

GILROY – The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, Inc., is now accepting entries for the 2003 Art Poster Contest. A $750 first prize will go to the entry which is judged to best capture the spirit and essence of this premier food festival. In addition, the first-place winner shall receive one of each souvenir food item produced with their artwork. The second-place winner will receive $400 and third place will get $200. The winning entry will be reproduced as a high-quality, limited edition poster to be sold at the 25th Annual Garlic Festival on July 25, 26 and 27. The deadline for entries is Feb. 4, 2003, and winners will be notified by Feb. 18. Christmas toy drive

SAN MARTIN – The Emergency Housing Consortium is still collecting new and unwrapped toys and gifts for the 26 families living in the Boccardo San Martin Family Living Center. Your family can even adopt one of these families. MORGAN HILL – Unique Sounds Productions presents the sixth annual Toys For Tots Jingle Jam, to be held Friday, Dec. 20 at the Camelot, 275 E. Dunne Ave., in Morgan Hill.
