Dear Editor:
The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce 2002 City Wide Christmas Program Committee has been busy finalizing plans for this year’s festivities which take place Saturday. We are pleased to report that this great community of Gilroy has holiday spirit and we have several entries in Santa’s Jolly Walk Parade. The line-up includes VFW Post 6309 Colorguard; Girl Scout Troop 1455; H. T. Bee, Hometown Buffet’s mascot; St. Mary’s Youth Group float; Brownie Troop 564; Tom, Greg and Tom’s Fire Truck with over 2000 lights; GUSD decorated bus; Bonfante Gardens Theme Park Critters float; Gilroy High School Marching Band, and Santa with his Celebrity Reindeer Team.
Santa’s Jolly Walk Parade route is on Monterey Street from Sixth Street north to Fourth Street. After the Jolly Walk Parade, Santa returns the intersection of 5th and Monterey Streets to light the official City Christmas Tree. Following the tree lighting, stroll through Storybook Lane and visit Santa in Santa Land, located in the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce office, which is guarded by lighted toy soldiers. Of course, all of this is preceded by musical entertainment beginning at 4 p.m. in the parking lot at 5th and Monterey Streets.
We truly hope that you will join us, along with Santa and his Jolly Walk Parade pals, in sharing the spirit and the magic of the holidays with our community.
Christine L. Filice, Gilroy,
Santa’s Jolly Walk Coordinator
