As judges look on, Phuong Tran, a barista from Lava Java in Ridgefield, Wash., prepares a cappuccino Friday, on the second day of the United States Barista Championship in Seattle. Tran, who was the runner-up at the national competition last year in Atlanta, was hoping to win this year and advance to the international competition, which will be held in Seattle in April.
