Suspect in sex, check cases released from jail on bail
MORGAN HILL
– The young man arrested in June for allegedly exposing himself
before several 6-year-old girls at Jackson Elementary School was
released from jail Tuesday for the second time.
Andrew Brereton,18, had been remanded to jail on Nov. 7 on a new
charge of allegedly passing a forged check. His parents posted a
$100,000 bond for his release, but he was not allowed to return
home.
Instead he will be living on South Monterey Road, well out of
town and far away from schools, according to Deputy District
Attorney Mark Hood.
Heritage resource meeting
GILROY – The County of Santa Clara County is beginning an update of its Heritage Resource Inventory and needs volunteers. Local knowledge is critical to the success of the survey update. Help is needed to provide local connections for contacting property owners; locate historical photographs of the area and listed historic resources in archives and private collections; locate historical newspaper articles and similar local sources; identify properties associated with historical themes or building types that are not well represented in the current inventory and may be considered for future documentation; and conduct oral history interviews to augment archival research. ‘Miracle Worker’ auditions
GILROY – Auditions for Odyssey Theatre Company’s winter Main Stage Production of “The Miracle Worker” will be held Saturday, Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. in the Gilroy High School Theater. This all-ages production will be produced and directed by special guest artist Jeff McGrath. The Miracle Worker is a play based on Annie Sullivan’s heroic efforts to teach her new pupil, young Helen Keller. After an illness renders baby Helen blind and deaf – and, therefore, mute – her desperate parents hire a new governess, Annie Sullivan. Annie teaches Helen discipline and fingerspellings for words, and the true “miracle” begins. Details: 842-0863.
Volunteers needed
GILROY – The Salvation Army needs volunteers for the Thanksgiving season. On Wednesday, Nov. 27, volunteers are needed for decorating, cooking, serving and hosting community dinners in Gilroy, San Martin and Morgan Hill. VTA public meeting
GILROY – Due to the declining economy, Valley Transit Authority will hold meetings to discuss proposed transit service reductions. If approved, the transit service reductions would go into effect in April 2003. Fund raiser to help GFD
GILROY – A group of Gavilan College students called Operation: Fire Prevention is holding a fund-raising dinner and raffle on behalf of the Gilroy Fire Department. The buffet tri-tip dinner and raffle will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gavilan College Student Center with raffles held at 7 and 8 p.m. Dinner tickets are $15 each and include an entry for the door prizes. GILROY – Customers at Raley’s family of stores can help feed a neighboring family while shopping for their own meals. Food For Families, the nonprofit program that gives food banks a chance to fill their pantry needs, is seeking non-perishable food and cash donations.
