The National Guard armories in Gilroy, San Jose and Sunnyvale are now open from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. through Sunday, according to a press release from the county. The normal hours are 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. from November through March.

“There are approximately 7,200 homeless people on any given night in Santa Clara County,” said Marjorie Matthews, director of the Office of Affordable Housing. “We’re doing everything possible to provide shelter during these severe weather conditions.”

The Gilroy shelter is located at 8940 wren Avenue. Residents can call 211 for shelter information and other locations.
