Saint Louise Regional Hospital opens its Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine with a blessing at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 28. The Center is an outpatient, hospital-based program that works with the physicians in the community to treat chronic, problem wounds.
“What is unique about the Saint Louise program is that the center will have two hyperbaric chambers that provide high concentrations of oxygen to the blood stream, which speeds up the healing process,” said Program Director Colleen Monfross. “The professional and caring staff at Saint Louise … offer hope to patients whose wounds have not healed for months, sometimes years.”
For most people, cuts and scratches heal within days or weeks. But for those whose natural healing process is hampered, such as with the elderly or diabetics, a simple sore can become a complex problem. The Center is devoted to healing problem wounds.
