GILROY – Valerie Smith Intero captured the Men’s Basketball League title Wednesday with a 47-31 victory over Bethany Community Church at Solorsano Gymnasium.
The win clinched the second-half title for the 5-0 Realtors with next week’s games completing the regular season. Valerie Smith Intero also earned the first-half crown with a 5-1 mark in the Gilroy Community Services Department program.
Al Angulo and Mark Cisneros each delivered eight points to pace the winners. Cisneros and Kevin Steele each hit a pair of three-point field goals. Valerie Smith Intero built a 20-18 intermission lead. Dominik Wilkins produced nine points, James Suber and Jerrell Morales seven apiece for Bethany.
GC Farms moved into second place at 3-2 with a 52-48 decision over Phi Slamma Jamma.
Cliff Dennett paced the Farmers with 23 points. Chase Locsin and Chad Bright settled for seven points each for the winners. Ed Galisanao erupted for 19 points, including five 3-pointers, for Phi Slamma Jamma. David Vogel worked inside for 12 Jamma points.
Morgan Hill Garage upset Beale Properties 36-35 behind 10 points each from Sig Reynisson and Joe Wortham. Josh Torres made one free throw in the closing seconds to snap a 35-35 tie. Robert Rodriguez led the Beale attack with 24 points.
Gaeta’s Ballers (4-1) maintained a one-game lead in the Women’s League second half pennant chase with a 51-27 verdict over Williams Dental Lab Monday at Solorsano Gym.
Laura Hennessee was good for 26 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Gaeta’s offense. Lorraine Jones struck for 12 Baller points. Susan Marie Hoeft led the Williams offense with 16 points.
Western Tree Nursery, the first-half titlist, moved to 3-2 with a 35-24 nod over the Garlic Girls.
Marisa Taylan led Western tree with 12 points. Melanie Corona contributed nine points to the winning effort. Lena Tabron popped in eight points, Elise Bassett six for the Garlic Girls.
