Gilroy Little League’s Mets and Angels of the Boys Minors
division will be playing next week in the Tournament of
Champions.
The Mets ended a sixteen-game season in fourth place with six wins, nine losses and one tie; making them the underdog in the playoffs. But, they battled through seven playoff games in twelve days, defeating every team in their division at least once to earn the title of National League Champions.
The American League Angels ended a sixteen-game season in first place with only one loss and one tie, entering the playoffs the favorite to win. The Redsox made them work for the title, but in the end the Angels proved to be everything they had been all season and took the American League Championship.
On June 11, the two teams celebrated their titles and were awarded their trophies.
The two teams will now represent Gilroy Little League in the Boys Minors Tournament of Champions to be hosted this year at the new Gilroy Sports Park. The first game for the Angels (Gilroy American) will be held Monday, June 16, at 6 p.m. against the Watsonville American League Champions. The first game for the Mets (Gilroy National) will be held Tuesday, June 17, at 6 p.m. against the Santa Cruz National League Champions.
