Assemblyman Ira Ruskin, D-Redwood City, has introduced a bill to create seven equal directors for the Santa Clara Valley Water District Board.
The water district is already composed of seven members, but only five of the seven directors are elected by voters in Santa Clara County. The other two at-large directors are appointed by county supervisors.
The directors hope the redistricting will help them better manage the district’s water supply.
The intention is to better serve the district’s population, according to Santa Clara Valley Water District spokeswoman Susan Siravo.
“Board members will be better able to understand the needs of citizens in their particular district,” Siravo said.
