A girl was attacked and robbed by a man in a ski mask early in the morning on her walk to work while a lone witness watched without calling police, police said.
The juvenile, whose name and age police withheld, was walking on the 8300 block of Arroyo Circle near the Gilroy Premium Outlets, 5:50 a.m. Sunday, when she was attacked from behind by a man in a ski mask, according to police. He tackled her to the ground and hit the girl’s head several times. She fought back, yelled at the man to leave her alone, and take her iPod and headphones. According to police, he took the headphones and ran away.
One person witnessed the attack, but did not call police to make a report, police said. The girl also did not report the attack for 40 minutes. Police later found the witness at a nearby business after the girl reported the incident.
Police searched the area but could not find the man, who was described as a male in his 20s standing 5-feet, 8-inches to 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighing 160 to 180 pounds, police said. He was last seen wearing a dark sweatshirt, khaki pants and a ski mask.
Police do not know if the attack was motivated by robbery or sexual assault, police said. The girl received medical aid after complaining of pain in her head.
