Kits provide the essentials to survive the chilly, wet winter
months
Gilroy – Donate to the homeless in our community will be used to build “Homeless Winter Survival Kits.” These kits contain supplies to keep the homeless dry during the challenging winter months and can include: Water repellent jackets, backpacks, water repellent sleeping bags, sleeping bag mats, knit caps, gloves, flashlights, socks, toothbrushes and paste, soap and other sundries.
There is no more challenging time for the homeless community than the chilly, wet winter months.
While providing these individuals with the essentials they need to survive the winter is not a lasting cure for homelessness, the gesture affords the homeless a small bit of comfort and helps them maintain dignity as they interact in the community.
Volunteers are hoping to raise $10,000 to build as many as 300 kits. They have received $3,500. Checks should be made to “St. Joseph’s Family Center – Survival Kits.” All donations are tax deductible. They will pick up donations or they can mail them to us – or St. Joseph’s at7950 Church St., Gilroy, CA 95020.
