The South County Extreme seventh-grade boys AAU basketball team won the 2011 Saints AAU Invitational Tournament held March 12 and 13 at Burnett Elementary School in San Jose.

The Extreme defeated the host team, the San Jose Saints, 36-34 for the championship.

“It was a hard-fought game from start to end,” head coach Tracy Cox said. “Our kids took the lead early and never gave it up. I am so proud of the work they put in.”

The Extreme is comprised of a seventh-grade team and an eighth-grade team playing in AAU open division tournaments, with a focus of being a feeder program for the local area high school programs in the South County.

The championship team consisted of Lucas Adams, Patrick Carr, Benjamin Cox, Ian Dorrance, Brandon Ellemberg, Johnny Olvera, Michael Kropff, Ryan Reyes, Christian Schmidt, Jon Schmidt and Justin Soseman.

“We’re now preparing for the Reno National AAU Invitational Tournament in May and we have so much to work on, but we will be ready,” assistant coach Art Olvera said.

“The Extreme have played nationally ranked elite teams from Oakland, San Francisco and the Central Valley and are looking forward to what Reno has to offer,” Cox said.
