allegedly found a loaded handgun and methamphetamine in his car,
and a stolen laptop computer in his Morgan Hill home.
Police arrested a Norteno street gang member after they allegedly found a loaded handgun and methamphetamine in his car, and a stolen laptop computer in his Morgan Hill home.
Morgan Hill police officers went to the home of David Pena, 23, on the 18300 block of Serra Avenida to serve two arrest warrants, according to Sgt. Troy Hoefling. One of the warrants was for a parole violation and one for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Pena was on parole for an assault with a deadly weapon conviction.
When officers arrived at the home, Pena was sitting in a parked vehicle in the driveway, Hoefling said. He saw the police and ran inside his home. Police pursued him and arrested him minutes later.
Officers searched the vehicle and home, Hoefling said. Found inside the vehicle’s door, next to where Pena had been sitting, was a loaded handgun. Also found were an unspecified amount of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a digital scale and two cellular phones.
In the home was found a stolen laptop computer, police said. The computer was stolen from San Jose in October.
Pena was arrested and booked at Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting arrest, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and possession of drugs while armed with a firearm, Hoefling said.
He was also booked on suspicion of being a member of a criminal street gang who actively participates with knowledge to further the gang, police said.
