Mary Elizabeth Rollins

Mary Elizabeth Barrett Edwards Rollins, 89, of Fredericksburg, passed away November 20, 2011.

Elizabeth was born to Ernest H. Barrett and Bertha Connor Barrett on Feb. 28, 1922. She had an older brother, Harvey Howard who nicknamed her Sissy.

She was raised in Fredericksburg and moved to Falmouth as a teenager where she attended high school and met her first husband, Warren Houte Edwards. They have two sons, Warren Ernest “Sonny” Edwards and Gerald Lee “Jerry” Edwards surviving their union. Houte was killed in Europe in World War II.

She met her second husband, William Thomas “Tom” Rollins, on the farm of her in-laws, Price and Annie Edwards. They lived in Falmouth for most of their married life.

Tom retired as Fredericksburg Fire Chief and was a life member of the Fredericksburg Elks Lodge where Elizabeth was a member of the auxiliary. She was a member of Falmouth United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Mary Washington Hospital Auxiliary. She wanted a large family, and her family was the center of her life.

Survivors include her six children Warren E. “Sonny” Edwards, Gerald L. “Jerry” Edwards, William T. “Tommy” Rollins Jr., Susan Rollins Pitts, Deborah “Debbie” Rollins Monroe, and Charles Samuel “Sam” Rollins as well as 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Bowling Green.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.
