Servando Flores, Sr.

Servando Flores Sr. passed away peacefully in his home in Hollister on November 11, 2011, at the age of 79. He died surrounded by his family. He was born on October 22, 1932, in Rancho del Difunto Angel, Tamaulipas, Mexico.

He was the eldest child of Alicia (Saldana) and Moises Flores. On July 22, 1952 he married Rosaena Flores in Cuidad Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Servando moved to San Benito County in 1957. He worked as a mechanic for Almaden Vineyards for over thirty years until the company was sold. After realizing that he wasn’t ready for retirement he returned to work once again. This time for Heublein Wines and in recent years working part time for Circle S Vineyards.

From the 1960s to the 1980s, he was an active member of the United Farm Workers Union and worked to secure equal rights for himself and his fellow workers. He instilled a strong sense of public service in his children and leaves behind a family of educators and local leaders.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents Alicia and Moises Flores and his sister Colema Postigo. Servando is survived by his wife Rosaena Flores, his brother Luis Flores, his children Nidya Norma Fidler, Mayra Flores, Irasema Flores-Triana, Laura Vallejo, Servando Flores, Jr. and his ten grandchildren: San Benito County Supervisor Robert Rivas, Rick Rivas, Carey Fidler, Charlie Fidler, Alicia Triana, Alex Triana, Marisol Vallejo, Jesse Vallejo, Andrew Flores and Ryan Flores.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 19th, 2011, at 12:00 noon at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home.
