This holiday season, Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies are offering gifts to some residents wanted for misdemeanor offenses.
Through “Operation Second Chance,” individuals with non-violent or traffic-related warrants can self-surrender to any county agency and receive a new court date instead of being re-arrested and booked into jail, according to a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department news release.
The operation runs from Dec. 1 through Dec. 31 and is directed toward all non-violent misdemeanor warrants, no matter the defendant’s bail. This includes warrants stamped “No Cite and Release” and “No Bail,” according to the Sheriff’s department.
Felony warrants and any cases involving violence do not qualify for this program.
Over the past six years, more than 2,100 people have self-surrendered through the program, according to the Sheriff’s department. Gilroyans wishing to turn themselves in can go to the Gilroy Police Department, located at 7301 Hanna Street.
These agencies are also accepting self-surrenders at: Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department, Morgan Hill Police Department and the San Jose Police Department.
